REBOZO BODYWORK

Rebozo is a clothed form of bodywork performed on the floor or table, using a long woven cloth traditionally used in Mexico. Rebozos have a long history of use in Mexican life, including in pregnancy, birth and postpartum care. The form of bodywork I offer is informed by these traditions, but is adapted for a wider range of people and circumstances.

The session involves a series of gentle lifts, rocking and rhythmic movements around different parts of the body. The cloth creates a sense of being supported and moved, with wave-like sensations travelling through the body.

Rather than working directly into the muscles, the movement offers a different way of experiencing the body — one that can feel light, spacious and playful, as well as deeply restful. The rocking and holding can also evoke some of the sensations of being carried or held, which some people find particularly soothing.

Towards the end of the session, the body can be gently wrapped in the cloth and held for a period of stillness. This gives time to experience the sensation of being contained and supported, before slowly coming back into movement.

Some people who find conventional massage difficult or invasive are drawn to this form of bodywork because the touch is less direct. It can also be an interesting alternative for people who simply don't enjoy being worked on in the usual way.

As with all my bodywork, I work responsively and with attention to boundaries. There is no particular experience you need to have, and no expectation that anything needs to be released or resolved. Sometimes the work is simply pleasurable and restful; sometimes memories, feelings or unexpected sensations arise. We can make space for whatever is there without needing to force it into a particular meaning.
